Understanding Hospital Charges, Billing, & Payments

The Charge, Billing, & Payment Process

Methodist McKinney Hospital is committed to providing compassionate health care services to every patient who walks through our doors. We’ll help you navigate the charge, billing, and payment process prior to your visit so you can make an informed decision regarding your out-of-pocket costs.

Generally, patients make financial arrangements and verify their insurance coverage prior to hospital registration. All patients are responsible for paying for every health care service they receive at our facility.

We look forward to partnering with you on your health care journey.

Charges

How to Request a Hospital Charge Estimate

Every patient should understand their potential financial liability before receiving any medical services. We encourage patients to request a free charge estimate for any hospital procedure, service, or test by calling a financial counselor at (972) 569-2700 and choosing option five when prompted.

We based charge estimates on the information you (the patient) provide. These charges do not include additional procedures, services, or tests that your physician orders after the initial estimate, after unforeseen complications occur, or charges you receive from your physician that are billed separately.

Physician Billing Process

Physicians are independent contractors that aren’t employed by Methodist McKinney Hospital. Each individual physician practice sets its own prices. After services are provided, each physician will send a bill with the related charges. These charges are separate from any fees charged by the hospital. Keep in mind that some physicains may be considered out-of-network by your insurance provider. If this is the case, you must work with your insurance provider to address the issue.

Physicians who bill separately and might be out-of-network include (but are not limited to):

  • Primary Care Physicians
  • Specialty Care Physicians
  • Radiologists
  • Pathologists
  • Anesthesiologists
  • Surgeons
  • Emergency Room Physicians
  • Hospitalists
  • DME Products

Billing

Payment

Patients should prepare to pay any co-pay or deductible amounts on the day they receive health care services. Patients without insurance coverage or those who receive cosmetic surgery must pay all charges in advance. Please contact our business office for pricing information.

We understand that patients sometimes require special financial arrangements. If this is the case for you, please call our business office at (972) 569-2700 and choose option 5 when prompted. Call prior to your surgery so we can discuss alternative payment methods. Our patient account representatives are available 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday to discuss financial arrangements. Methodist McKinney Hospital accepts cash, cashier’s checks, all major credit cards, and personal checks accompanied by a valid ID.

Methodist McKinney Hospital bills your primary and secondary insurance providers or governmental agency directly for facility fees. It’s important that you bring your most current primary and secondary insurance, Medicare, or public assistance card on the day you receive hospital services.

Make note of your insurance plan’s admission policies. You or your physician might need to adhere to specific requirements to ensure maximum reimbursement. Failure to obtain pre-authorization, a physician referral, or a second medical opinion might significantly reduce or eliminate your benefits.

For your convenience, you also can pay your bill online with a credit card or bank transfer. Click here to be directed to Methodist McKinney Hospital’s secure online payment page.

Chargemaster Transparency FAQs

Where are the Methodist McKinney Hospital (MMH) chargemasters located?

Patients and Visitors can access the MMH chargemaster by visiting our website at MethodistMckinneyHospital.com. A hospital financial counselor will provide a hospital estimate or help you access the chargemaster system.

How often is the chargemaster information updated?

The chargemaster is updated annually as required by section 2718(e) of the Public Health Service Act, which was enacted as part of the Affordable Care Act.

I don’t understand the charges published in the chargemaster—I can’t find any prices for my surgery.

Surgery pricing at MMH is based on how much time the patient spends in the operating room and recovery and includes additional services that you may receive—such as labs, drugs, or radiology.

To obtain an estimated list of charges, we recommend contacting a facility financial counselor to customize an estimate for you. The estimate will include a list of charges for the services that are generally performed for a specific test, procedure, or surgery. They also will apply insurance and uninsured discounts.
